Summer activities at Finsehytta
Finse is a excellent starting point for hikes further southwards Hardangervidda, or into Skarvheimen. If biking is more tempting than hiking, the historical Rallarvegen passes straight through Finse sentrum. Are you interested in the history of the place, and the hard struggles building the railroad, a visit to the local museum is recommended. Finsehytta can be a stop along the way from another cabin, or on the road to Flåm, but if you are staying for some days, we have some suggestions about hikes in the area. Finse is a beautiful place in summer, and worth spending a few days exploring.
Cycle the Rallarvegen
Rallarvegen has repeatedly been voted Norway's most beautiful cycling route. This historic trail takes you through impressive natural landscapes, from high mountains to lush valleys, making it perfect for both day trips and longer tours. Bicycles are available for rent at Finse station. Read more
Explore the glacier
Summer is the ideal time to explore Hardangerjøkulen. Together with guides from Jøklagutane, you can experience Hardangerjøkulen up close, learn about its history, and discover everything the ice can tell us. Read more
Hiking
Explore the many trails and hikes around Finse. The area is part of DNT's network of hiking trails, and from here you can follow the red T-markings south into the vast Hardangervidda or north through the varied landscape of Skarvheimen. Read more about our suggested cabin to cabin hikes
From Finsehytta, you can reach a number of impressive mountain peaks offering views of large parts of the Norwegian landscape. With a bit of luck, you might even glimpse Gaustatoppen and the Hurrungane in Jotunheimen. On the way down from the peaks, you can often encounter snowdrifts even in the middle of summer. The Rallarmuseeum
The Rallar Museum in Finse provides a fascinating insight into the life of the navvies and the history behind the construction of the Bergen Line, Norway's highest railway line. The exhibits include photographs, tools, and personal items that showcase the everyday life and challenges faced by the navvies. Tickets can be purchased at the reception.
